'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' is inspired by the life of Indian Air Force fighter pilot Gunjan Saxena. Gunjan entered the war zone during the 1999 Kargil War. His struggle and success have been shown well in the film. He has been awarded the Shaurya Veer Award for showing indomitable courage during the Kargil War.

Gunjan Saxena (Jhanvi Kapoor), a resident of Lucknow, dreamed of becoming a pilot since childhood, but she had to face the thought that girls should be confined to the house's four walls. She got the support of her father (Pankaj Tripathi), and she faced difficulties and became a pilot in the Indian Air Force, but upon reaching there, she once again faced the same stereotype. She proved that women are no less than anyone. In 1999, Gunjan flew a Cheetah helicopter over the Kargil War Zone and performed a feat ranging from providing medical treatment to the soldiers to finding out the whereabouts of the enemies.
